Overview

Telr is a payment gateway and Payment Service Provider (PSP) that enables merchants to accept and process payments across more than 120 currencies and 30 languages. The company operates in the UAE and Saudi Arabia and provides secured payment infrastructure. Telr was founded in 2014. Following Cashfree Payments' investment, the two firms plan to build a cross-border payments platform to help Indian merchants accept payments from customers in the MENA region and vice-versa. The strategic partnership is intended to let Cashfree launch its offerings in the MENA region leveraging Telr’s presence and infrastructure. The article does not disclose Telr’s financials or recent operating metrics. Telr is a Dubai-based fin-tech aggregator of multiple payment methods, including cards and online banking, that offers unified APIs to enable businesses to accept and manage online payments. It operates across the Middle East, Southeast Asia and India and is owned by Innovate Technologies FZCO. The company expects to hit $1 billion in yearly transactions by the end of the year. Telr plans to use new capital to enhance its core products, roll out new payment methods, and scale operations—especially in India and other emerging markets. It will also use funds to offer short-term lending to small businesses. Founded in March 2014 by former PayPal executive Sirish Kumar, Telr faces competition in the Indian fin-tech landscape from players such as Paytm, PayU, CCAvenue and MobiKwik.
