Tend
8 City Boulevard Suite 202, Nashville, Tennessee, 37209, United States
Overview
Tend operates dentist locations that provide a range of services including dental exams, Breezy Braces, oral surgery, emergency care and a suite of consumer oral-care products. Led by founding CEO Doug Hudson, the company launched in October 2019 and is based in New York City and Nashville. After launch, Tend has grown to serve more than 20,000 patients and employ 256 team members across six New York City locations (Chelsea, Flatiron, Grand Central, Wall Street, Upper West Side and Williamsburg). The company plans to expand nationally, building out studios across the U.S. and increasing locations from six in NYC to 20, with new market entries planned in Washington D.C. and Boston. Tend intends to use capital to invest in technology and patient experience and to launch a suite of comprehensive services and oral care products. The business combines in-clinic services with consumer products as part of its expansion strategy. Tend operates tech-heavy dental “studios” that prioritize patient comfort with sleek spaces, in‑chair entertainment ("Netflix in your chair") and premium amenities such as Bose headphones and curated toothpastes. Appointments are booked online with upfront pricing so patients avoid surprise bills. The company has opened a flagship studio in Manhattan’s Flatiron neighborhood as an early proof point. CEO and co‑founder Doug Hudson previously led SmileDirectClub and founded other medical care companies that were acquired. Tend positions itself as improving the patient experience in a large, addressable U.S. dental market (IBIS World estimates $137 billion). The startup is pursuing a One Medical‑style model of experience-driven, venture-backed clinics.
