Overview
Kaazing provides enterprise-grade real-time web and mobile communication products built on the HTML5 WebSocket standard. Its founding team helped design the WebSocket protocol to enable a full-duplex pipe rather than legacy request-response architectures. The company says its platform drives real-time communications for customers including Intel, Google, Bechtel, Oracle, and HSBC. Kaazing will use the new funding to drive corporate growth and global expansion, according to CEO and co-founder Jonas Jacobi. The company has expanded its sales and business development efforts, adding Cisco veteran John Donnelly. Founded in 2007 and based in Mountain View with sales offices in New York City and London, Kaazing has raised a total of $39M to date. Kaazing builds WebSocket-based infrastructure to enable full‑duplex, real‑time web communications, deploying a WebSocket Gateway for high‑performance interactive applications. The company targets financial services, retail, gaming and entertainment, transportation, and mobile use cases, with customers including BSkyB, Cantor Fitzgerald, ITRS, Southwest Airlines, and The Limited. Kaazing plans to expand its platform-as-a-service offering and improve real-time performance over mobile networks. It recently added Cisco veteran John Donnelly to broaden sales and business development channels. The company was founded in 2007 and is headquartered in Mountain View, Calif., with sales offices in New York City and London. Kaazing currently has about 50 employees and intends to hire another 15–25 staffers. Kaazing offers the Enterprise Comet platform for creating and deploying web applications. The company says Enterprise Comet can be used to build applications ranging from online trading systems to RFID/GPS tracking systems. Kaazing raised $1 million in its first round of funding. Investors in the round have not been disclosed. The company intends to use the new funding to further develop its Enterprise Comet platform. Chris Shipley named Kaazing one of the top 10 companies at DEMO and predicted it could be acquired by Microsoft or Sun.
