Terascala provides storage appliances designed to accelerate time to insight for organizations that rely on simulation, analysis and modeling tools. Its solutions are available exclusively through strategic partners Dell and NetApp. The company is investing in the Intelligent Storage Bridge (ISB), a high-performance workflow manager to transfer large data sets automatically between fast scratch storage and enterprise storage. Terascala closed additional equity funding (amount undisclosed) and secured a significant financing package with Bridge Bank that includes two lines of working capital and an asset-based lending facility. The new capital is intended to enable further investments in the ISB. The company is led by CEO Steve Butler and is based in Boston, MA. Terascala develops a software stack that delivers optimized, scalable I/O on industry-standard storage appliances to accelerate big data applications. Its Terascala Integrated Storage Information System (TISIS) provides appliance management and workload-driven I/O technology for the open-source Lustre parallel file system, and combines analysis and optimization tools, integration and services. TISIS runs on industry-standard storage appliances across market segments including life sciences, financial services, energy, academic research, CAE, and government/defense. The company says organizations worldwide use its solutions to improve processing of large data pools that are limited by standard file system throughput. Terascala will use new funding to expand research and development, marketing, customer support, develop strategic alliances, and fuel international expansion. Founded in 2005 and based in Avon, Mass., the company counts partners including Dell, EMC and NetApp.
