TeraSol, based in Lausanne, develops ExoSol©, a fertile substrate produced from recycled urban excavated materials for sustainable urban greening. ExoSol’s manufacturing process is designed to be carried out on-site or within a nearby perimeter to reduce transport and greenhouse-gas emissions. The company plans to build an ExoSol© catalogue and to develop an urban soil mapping tool to define, visualize, and test renaturation scenarios for cities. Proceeds from the CHF 500,000 pre-seed will fund hiring a scientific manager to lead the research laboratory and investigate local mineral and organic raw-material sourcing. TeraSol reports that turnover in 2023 largely covers fixed and operating costs, allowing this financing to be used entirely for commercialization and product development. The company currently employs five people and plans to grow to seven by the end of 2024.
