Terram Astra
Near Alice Springs, Alice Springs, Northern Territory, Australia
Overview
Terram Astra is building a new ground-based infrastructure platform that houses two core capabilities: SHOT Comms, a sovereign optical and radio-frequency satellite-communications network, and Orbit DRAM, a ground-based orbital-debris mitigation and monitoring system. The company’s first hub, situated near Alice Springs, will deliver shared power, fibre, security and operations in a hardened inland location that ensures persistent clear skies and sovereign control. By co-locating these services, Terram Astra aims to close urgent capability gaps created by congested orbits, fragile subsea cables and limited sovereign test and training facilities. Once operational, the firm plans to expand into Wallis STARR, a commercially accessible, all-domains testing, training and research range for autonomous and emerging technologies. Early interest has come from defence and commercial customers in Australia, the United States, Japan and other allied nations. The current focus is on translating this validated demand into first-of-kind, long-life infrastructure with clear paths to scale. Terram Astra ultimately envisions decades-long strategic relevance as a sovereign continuity layer for communications and space-safety services.
