TestBox builds a platform to make it easier for buyers to test software they plan to purchase by providing ready-to-run test environments pre-populated with synthetic data. The product currently concentrates on customer support software with plans to expand into sales and marketing tools in the coming months and eventually other software categories. TestBox uses GPT-3 technology to generate synthetic datasets that resemble a customer’s data so teams can evaluate products without exposing real customer information. The company has released TestBox for Sales to let sales teams provide fully configured trial environments and sales reps are already adopting it as a proof-of-concept/demo tool. Its commercial model makes test boxes free to try, with TestBox taking a cut of any resulting sale and in some cases a portion of recurring revenue. The company has grown to 15 employees (up from six at the time of its $2.7M pre-seed) and emphasizes DEIB in hiring and a diverse board. TestBox offers a fully working package with pre-populated data (generated by GPT-3/OpenAI) and guided walkthroughs to let teams test and collaborate on enterprise software prior to purchase. Its product includes feature grading via a star-rating system, comment capture, and a centralized "notebook" that records all feedback. The company has made the product widely available and is initially concentrating on customer support software, working with Zendesk, HubSpot and Freshdesk. TestBox is in discussions with Salesforce to add Service Cloud later this year and plans to expand into CRM, martech and IT help desks over time. The startup announced a $2.7M seed round from SignalFire, Firstminute Capital and several other investors and industry angels. The team began hiring in February, has eight employees, plans to stay lean in the early stage, and is operating in a distributed manner for now.
