Overview
Tevosol is an early-stage medical device company developing EVOSS™ (Ex-Vivo Organ Support System), a portable perfusion machine that keeps lungs at normal body temperature to aid recovery, transport, evaluation, and transplantation. The company is led by CEO Ron Mills and co-founder/chief scientific officer Darren Freed, MD. Tevosol recently closed a C$2.0M seed financing round and has C$6.3M in seed financing to date. It intends to use the new funds to complete a proof-of-concept human trial at the University of Alberta, expand its product engineering and industrial design team, and accelerate commercial development. Management expects the Alberta prototype trial to conclude within a month and plans a pilot introduction across Canada with an FDA pivotal clinical trial targeted within a year. Tevosol will next seek venture funding to support manufacturing, clinical investigation, and commercial launch. Tevosol has designed a medical device that keeps critical organs such as hearts and lungs viable for transplant longer by keeping the organ warm and supplied with oxygen. The system uses a common hardware platform paired with organ-specific single-use disposable cassettes for lungs, hearts, livers and kidneys. The company plans to further develop its device prototype for clinical use and to begin a lung transplant trial at the University of Alberta. Tevosol is a University of Alberta spinoff led by CEO Kevin Ens. The company secured funding to support development and trials, with the specific backers not disclosed in the report.
