The Carbon Removers
80 George St, Edinburgh, EH2 3BU, United Kingdom
Overview
Founded by brothers Ed and Richard Nimmons in Crocketford near Castle Douglas, The Carbon Removers operates a pioneering facility that captures carbon dioxide from biogas plants and Scotland’s whisky distilleries. The company is the only UK firm granted a licence to permanently store Danish CO₂ and is linked to the EU’s first CO₂ storage site, giving it a unique regulatory position in Europe. Management plans to remove one million tonnes of carbon annually by 2030 through an expanding portfolio of sequestration projects. Looking further ahead, the firm targets £1 billion in annual revenue by fiscal year 2034/35. Recent backing from South of Scotland Enterprise (SOSE) is intended to catalyse a broader fundraising push that will finance UK and European expansion. The Carbon Removers positions its rural Scottish base as a hub for green innovation while serving hard-to-abate industrial sectors such as agriculture, whisky, and bioenergy. Although still at an early stage of commercialisation, the company now has public-sector validation and a clear scaling roadmap tied to measurable carbon-removal and revenue milestones.
