The Cru offers peer coaching services aimed at women, led by founder Tiffany Dufu. The company was not yet at cash-flow break-even in early 2020 and Dufu said she needed additional capital to ensure sustainability. In February 2020 she reported having roughly five months of runway. Dufu ran fundraising through the pandemic, scheduling video sessions with hundreds of investors and juggling childcare and illness. She previously raised a $1 million round in 2019. In July 2020 The Cru closed a nearly $2 million seed round to extend operations and support growth.
