The Curious AI Company
Itämerenkatu 5, Helsinki, 00180, Finland
Overview
Curious AI is a Helsinki-based team of roboticists, neuroscientists and graphics programmers developing unsupervised machine-learning software they plan to sell as a toolkit. The company grew out of work by co-founder Harri Valpola and his colleagues Mathias Berglund, Timo Haanpää, Tapani Raiko and Antti Rasmus, and builds on prior robotics work including the ZenRobotics waste-sorting venture. Its technology emphasizes unsupervised and semi-supervised learning to enable machines to learn by doing, with a focus on real-time vision and solving segmentation bottlenecks in computer vision. Initial commercial applications include semi-autonomous robots for sorting valuable material from waste, with broader aims toward autonomous systems and improved segmentation for areas like self-driving vehicles. Curious plans to demonstrate a real-time vision system trainable in a semi-supervised manner and to license its toolkit to large companies such as Google, Facebook, Nvidia and IBM. The company secured a €800,000 (about $1M) seed investment to advance development and demonstrations.
