Overview
Blaseball is a web-based, fictional baseball-esque league built by The Game Band that blends fantasy betting, RPG-like player stats and absurd/horror events into text-based match summaries. Players use in-game currency to bet and buy votes that influence longer-term league outcomes, and seasons run roughly 19 weeks. The game has drawn hundreds of thousands of players, with more than half accessing it on mobile despite the team saying the mobile experience is "not great." Blaseball was created as a pandemic side project and is free to play; the developers emphasize community-driven, non–pay-to-win monetization. The studio had not set the project up to be profitable and was "slowly losing money," with community support coming via Patreon and sponsorships. The team runs an active writers' room and plans further lore and product work while keeping the game flexible to emergent player-driven narratives.
