The Gist
6 Dror Street, Tel Aviv, 6813506, Israel
Overview
TheGist’s first product uses AI to scan Slack messages and produce short, personalized summaries (typically a bullet point or two) of channels, threads, or long individual messages. Users summon the app with the "/gist" command and can request summaries covering timeframes from one day to several weeks. The app is free for up to five summaries; unlimited summaries require a premium subscription starting at $10 per user per month. Founders Itay Dressler and Itzik Ben Bassat say the product leverages multiple open-source large language models with in-house fine-tuning, and the company deletes Slack messages after generating requested summaries while retaining analytical and usage data. TheGist faces limits common to generative AI (summary errors) and potential compliance/security concerns for regulated companies. The startup plans to expand beyond Slack with proprietary generative AI solutions to summarize other apps (email, texts, project-management tools, docs) and to deliver actionable insights across information-producing apps. TheGist has raised $7 million to date, positioning the company to continue product development and expansion.
