Overview
The Graph is a protocol for indexing and querying blockchain data using open-source APIs called subgraphs. It supports indexing data from 26 different blockchain networks, including Ethereum, Near, Arbitrium, Optimism, Polygon, Avalanche, Celo, Fantom, Moonbeam and IPFS. Its subgraphs are used by projects such as Uniswap, Synthetix, KnownOrigin, Gnosis, Balancer, Livepeer, DAOstack, Audius and Decentraland. The protocol is positioned as connective tissue for the next-generation web (Web3), making blockchain data accessible to developers. The company raised $50 million in a funding round led by Tiger Global Management. The Graph's GRT token was trading around $0.48 at the time of publication. The Graph is a decentralized data-indexing protocol that extracts, indexes and serves searchable data from blockchains. It is currently in testnet and powers DeFi applications such as Uniswap, Balancer and Synthetix. The protocol aims to be the decentralized infrastructure of Web3 by enabling indexers, curators and delegators to participate in a permissionless network. As it prepared for mainnet, the project processed over 300 million queries per day. The foundation recently completed a public sale of its native GRT token and has prior financings including a $5 million private token sale with Coinbase Ventures and a $2.5 million seed led by Multicoin Capital. The team has teased a mainnet launch in the next 30–60 days and emphasized wide token distribution to participants across 99 countries. The Graph is advancing a query protocol for Web3 that enables developers to index data from smart contracts (initially focused on Ethereum) and from IPFS. It provides a hosted service and graph explorer that uncovers rich new data sources to power dApps. The company plans to offer both centralized and decentralized services in 2019. The project is designed so the community can collaborate on curating quality data sources available to all. The Graph raised $2.4M in seed funding to continue building its decentralized indexing layer for Web3 applications. At launch the team announced seven partners — Dharma, Compound, Uniswap, ENS, Origin, Decentraland and Livepeer — all available on The Graph for third-party developers.
