Overview
The PlantEat is a Korea-based food tech startup that researches and develops alternative food products and plant-based substitutes. The company was founded in 2017 after placing top 3 in Seoul National University’s Be the Rocket program. It began with yakkong mayonnaise, a pure vegetable mayonnaise made from Korean yakkong bean and soy milk as an egg replacement. The PlantEat has secured technical credentials including certification by the British Vegetarian Society and registration of Korean patents. With a new $1.34M investment, the company plans to expand R&D, move its lab, and increase R&D personnel to develop a platform to replace eggs, milk, and meat. Management says the funding will support continued product and raw-material development for sustainable alternatives.
