The Routing Company develops a dynamic routing and vehicle-management platform that enables demand-responsive transit for cities and other transit providers. Its proprietary technology, spun out of MIT CSAIL and rooted in a 2017 MIT study, powers an easy-to-use platform to make fleets more responsive to fluctuating demand and traffic patterns in low- and medium-density areas. The company positions its product to improve reach, efficiency, reliability and sustainability of public transit versus low-tech fixed-route systems. The team combines MIT researchers and rideshare industry veterans, including leaders with experience at Uber and in shared-rides product development. The Routing Company plans to use new funding to accelerate commercialization of its dynamic shared rides technology, refine the product, and expand the team. Financially, the company has now raised a total of $6.175 million.
