The Young Turks
6230 Wilshire Blvd, Box #140, Los Angeles, CA, 90048, United States
Overview
The Young Turks began as a radio talk show and later aired on cable before becoming a digital-only network with primary distribution on YouTube. The network produces roughly 25 distinct channels of content, and the flagship The Young Turks show accounts for more than half of the network’s nearly 70 million monthly views. TYT offers a $10/month basic subscription that provides ad-free podcast episodes and on-demand streaming/download access. According to COO Steve Oh, 50–60% of revenues come from YouTube ads, 25–35% from subscribers, and the remainder from merchandise and other lines of business. The company has largely bootstrapped to date and has avoided traditional VC funding in favor of capital with fewer strings attached. TYT plans to expand to more platforms and streaming devices, pursue local and international syndication deals, and build out its sales team to improve CPMs and branded sponsorships.
