Therapeutic Proteins Inc. manufactures recombinant proteins and sells them as active pharmaceutical ingredients to drugmakers. The company produces raw materials for generic versions of biotech drugs and then sends the ingredients to drugmakers to formulate, package and sell the final pharmaceuticals. It recently moved into a manufacturing facility on the South Side of Chicago on the Illinois Institute of Technology campus and has 13 employees, with plans to add about two dozen more by January. Management recently hired CEO Zafeer Ahmed, a former executive at NeoPharm and GlaxoSmithKline. According to CFO Thomas Flynn III, the company expects to have its biogenerics on the market within two or three years. The company raised $8.4 million in equity and warrants, supporting its near-term manufacturing and development plans.
