Thermosome
Am Klopferspitz 19, Planegg, Bayern, 82152, Germany
Overview
Thermosome develops a drug delivery platform that creates thermosensitive, drug-loaded nanocarriers which release their payload within the bloodstream upon mild heat application (40–42°C). The platform can achieve up to 15-fold higher local drug concentrations while reducing systemic exposure and side effects versus conventional parenteral delivery. Various clinically established methods for focused mild-heat triggering are compatible with the technology. Its lead candidate is a formulation of a potent but toxic chemotherapeutic that has demonstrated preclinical proof-of-concept in several animal studies, showing improved efficacy and reduced side effects. The company is led by managing director Dr. Pascal Schweizer and the underlying technology was invented by Prof. Dr. Hansjoerg Eibl at the Max Planck Institute for Biophysical Chemistry and applied in studies at the University Hospital of the Ludwig-Maximilians-Universitaet Munich. Proceeds from the financing will advance the lead candidate through GMP manufacturing and preclinical development into a first clinical study in patients with certain solid tumors.
