Thingtesting

Alphabet City, New York, United States

Overview

Thingtesting began as Jenny Gyllander's @thingtesting Instagram account, where she posted brief, candid reviews of direct-to-consumer products. The account has about 32,800 followers and Gyllander has featured and reviewed more than 100 products, typically trying ~20 products monthly and publishing four to five official reviews. The project secured a $300,000 pre-seed investment from angel investor Hunter Walk, with participation from early Spotify investor Shakil Khan and other angels. Today Thingtesting generates revenue via Instagram's Close Friends feature—charging a $100 lifetime fee, with roughly 300 members—and Gyllander plans to expand monetization. Planned product development includes a Thingtesting website with Thingtesting and audience scores, a portal for user-submitted reviews, and a subscription membership tier. She intends to build a team of reviewers and content creators and positions the platform as an authenticity-driven filter for D2C discovery.
