Thinkific operates a platform that enables entrepreneurs and businesses to create, host, and sell online courses while letting creators retain their brand and customer relationships. Unlike marketplace models, Thinkific does not create, distribute, or take a cut of creators' course revenue. The company reports more than 50,000 entrepreneurs and businesses have created courses on the platform, with a 200% increase in courses since March and $650 million in revenue generated for creators to date. Thinkific became profitable in 2018 and had previously raised $3 million before the latest financing. Management plans to use the new funding to expand the team — targeting a tripling of headcount by hiring 350 people in the next 18 months — and to pursue opportunities from the COVID-19-driven acceleration to online learning. Rhino Ventures has highlighted roughly 150% year-over-year revenue growth as evidence of the company's traction.
