Overview
Thinking Screen Media (formerly Frame Media) offers a platform for delivering content to digital frames and other screen devices wirelessly. Its FrameChannel platform lets screen owners select, program and deliver personalized content from a library of over 1,000 content widgets, with integrations to photosharing and social networking sites plus news, weather, sports scores, stock quotes and hyper-local content. FrameChannel is available on devices from more than 20 consumer electronics providers, including Tivo, Roku, Samsung, Sony, Philips, Motorola, Kodak, Toshiba, Viewsonic and Apple. The company has raised $2 million in funding from Scala, bringing total funding to $7 million. As part of the deal, Scala acquired Thinking Screen Media’s digital-signage division, the SignChannel platform. The new funding will be used to develop Thinking Screen Media’s offering on the iPad; the startup launched a FrameChannel iPad app a few weeks ago. FrameMedia provides a platform for delivering content to internet-enabled picture frames. Its FrameChannel platform offers more than 400 feeds on topics such as sports news, traffic conditions, and weather, and it supports generic RSS feeds as well as Flickr and Facebook. The company emphasizes dynamically updated content as a driver of broader digital-frame adoption. According to IDC research cited in the article, 42.3 million digital frames were expected to be sold by 2011. FrameMedia says it will use new capital to establish itself as a leader in the fledgling space. The company has raised a total of $5.2 million following the latest investment.
