Thrasio
85 West Street, Floor 3, Walpole, Massachusetts, 02081, United States
Overview
Thrasio popularized the Amazon roll-up model, buying dozens of small, high-performing marketplace brands and centralizing their operations. The company claimed that the data and infrastructure synergies from this portfolio would improve overall performance as it grew. In 2020, Thrasio reported $500 million in revenue and $100 million in profit, and in 2021 it raised $1 billion at a valuation of up to $10 billion. Over time the strategy proved harder to execute amid shifting consumer demand and a tightening fundraising environment, leading to layoffs and leadership changes in 2022. By September 2023 secondary markets pegged its valuation at about $194 million, far below prior marks. The business has now entered Chapter 11 to restructure its balance sheet while continuing to run its brands. As part of the restructuring, Thrasio will shed roughly $495 million in debt, defer interest for a year, and access new liquidity to support ongoing operations.
