Thrilling is a Los Angeles–based, three-year-old online marketplace that enables mom-and-pop thrift and vintage stores to upload and sell their inventory on a web-only platform. Each item is sold and shipped directly from the independent seller while Thrilling handles payment processing, shipping and returns and takes a 10% cut of each sale. The startup serves over 300 store partners, 90% of which are women- and/or BIPOC-owned, and reports shoppers live on average 1,400 miles away. It has partnerships with Banana Republic and celebrity stylist Zerina Akers on curated vintage collections. The company says it receives hundreds—up to a thousand—new store applications each month, a trend accelerated by the pandemic. Thrilling plans to roll out new data analytics features for store partners, personalization technology to curate product suggestions for shoppers, and a new website featuring store-owner content about environmental and social issues.
