Thymmune Therapeutics

700 Main Street, Cambridge, Massachusetts, 02139, United States

Overview

Cambridge-based Thymmune Therapeutics uses machine-learning-guided protocols to convert induced pluripotent stem cells into thymic epithelial and stromal cells that are formulated for direct intramuscular injection, where they self-assemble into thymus-like tissue capable of generating new naïve T cells. Founded by Dr. Stan Wang and backed scientifically by Harvard geneticist George Church, the company’s first clinical focus is congenital athymia, a rare, fatal disorder in which children are born without a thymus. Longer term, Thymmune aims to treat thymic damage caused by chemotherapy, radiation, transplantation, and normal aging, ultimately positioning the therapy as a broad immune-rejuvenation product for the general population. Preclinical studies in humanized animal models have already demonstrated local formation of functional thymic tissue and new T-cell production. Financially, Thymmune is pre-revenue and has secured $37 million in non-dilutive ARPA-H project funding to advance toward IND-enabling work and first-in-human trials. The company is now scaling GMP-grade manufacturing and assembling regulatory packages to enter the clinic within the next few years.
