Ticketbis

Santiago, Region Metropolitana, Chile

Overview

Ticketbis operates an online aftermarket exchange for buying and selling tickets to events across Europe, Latin America and, more recently, Asia. The five-year-old company employs over 350 people and claims to operate in more than 30 countries. It competes with other aftermarket ticket exchanges such as Viagogo, Seatwave, Stubhub and Getmein. Management reports that turnover in Q1 2015 was already double the previous year, though the company does not disclose revenue or profit. Ticketbis says it will use new capital to improve service quality, bed down new markets (specifically in Asia) and develop its mobile products. As of this raise, total investment in the startup stands at €14 million. Ticketbis operates an online exchange for buying and selling after-market event tickets across 31 countries. The company says it is the leader in Southern Europe and Latin America and has recently expanded into Asia. Ticketbis reported a turnover of €29 million in the first half of 2014, exceeding its full-year 2013 revenue; sales mix in Q1 was about 50% Europe, 40% Latin America and 10% new markets. Founded in 2009, the startup plans to use new capital to bed down in existing markets and accelerate growth in newly entered regions, with a specific focus on Asia. Management expects revenues from Asia to equal those from Europe and Latin America in 2015. The company faces competition from other aftermarket ticket exchanges such as Viagogo, Seatwave, Stubhub and Getmein. Ticketbis operates an after-market, fan-to-fan marketplace for event tickets, focusing on sports, concerts and theatre. The Spain-based startup operates in 15 countries and says it is the market leader in Southern Europe and Latin America. The platform offers more than one million tickets and, since being founded in 2010, claims 6 million users and over 150,000 tickets sold worldwide. Financially, Ticketbis booked $18 million in sales in the first six months of the year, exceeding the $15 million invoiced in 2012, and makes money by charging a commission to buyers and sellers. The company attributes growth to an ambitious internationalisation plan and says roughly half of turnover comes from Europe and the remainder from Latin America. The new capital will be used to expand into new markets. Ticketbis operates an online platform for buying and selling tickets across sports, concert and theatre events. Founded in 2009 by Ander Michelena and Jon Uriarte, the company had about 70 employees at the time of the report. It planned to hire more than 30 additional staff to consolidate in existing markets and to launch operations in new markets. Target markets listed included Mexico, Argentina, Brazil, Spain, Portugal, Italy and the UK, with planned expansions to Germany and Russia. Between July and September Ticketbis recorded turnover of €3.5m versus €1.3m in the same period in 2011. Accumulated sales for 2012 had already topped €9m.
