Overview
Ticketea is a Spanish DIY ticketing platform that helps event organizers publish, promote, manage and sell tickets online. Its platform includes Passbook support, deep Facebook integration, a free access-control tool called "Ticketea checkpoint", reserved seating with custom seating charts, and full localization for target countries. Ticketea operates a freemium model—publishing and promoting events is free and the company takes a 10% commission on paid tickets (taxes and fees included)—and offers a POS iOS app called "Box Office" for on-site sales. The company plans to invest in new m-commerce mobile applications and sites, improved event discovery, and enhanced tools for event organizers as it expands internationally. It is cash-flow positive and reports having shifted $26 million worth of tickets since launching in 2010, issued more than 1.5 million tickets and managed over 31,000 events across more than ten Spanish-speaking countries. Ticketea grew 150% in 2012 and will use the new capital to consolidate its position in Spain and pursue expansion in emerging markets, with Latin America specifically mentioned. Ticketea is an online service designed to streamline event management and ticket sales for small- and medium-sized organizers. The platform aims to simplify six areas of event management: attendee registration, event promotion, event monetization, ticket distribution, ticket validation and data analysis. It intends to leverage Web 2.0 tools to offer a different way to promote events and make organizers' lives easier. The company was set up by two friends after the idea emerged while organizing a fundraising party for the 2009 Mongol Rally; Javier Andrés initially developed the idea as a student project for the Instituto de Empresa’s Venture Program. Ticketea will be based in Spain and planned to launch in the next few weeks. Financially, the startup has raised $280,000 from American and Spanish business angels, providing early capital to fund its launch and product development. The team positions Ticketea as the first venture of its kind in Spain.
