Overview

Tictail offers a mobile-first platform that makes it easy for small businesses to create online stores and for shoppers to discover emerging brands via its recently launched Tictail Marketplace. The company started three years ago in Stockholm and now hosts 85,000 brands on the platform. Tictail emphasizes mobile: 55%+ of transactions come from mobile and, since launching its merchant mobile offering two months ago, 16% of all stores have been launched from mobile. Management says the funding will be used to invest in "elevated shopping functionality on mobile" and to scale product initiatives. The team also plans to expand the platform into adjacent services such as advertising, shipping and fulfilment, retail services, company insurance and loans. Financially, Tictail announced a $22 million Series B that brings total capital raised to $32 million, backed by a mix of existing and new investors. TicTail is a DIY ecommerce platform from Sweden that lets users set up online storefronts with minimal technical knowledge. It targets DIYers and entrepreneurs who “don’t speak internet,” emphasizing ease of use and community over being just a tool. The product runs a freemium model and offers third-party developer add-ons, on which TicTail takes a 30% commission. The platform has grown to 35,000 stores, up from around 5,000 in 2012 and 23,000 in late summer 2013. With the new funding, TicTail plans to open a New York City office, expand operationally into the U.S., and improve discovery on the platform. Tictail provides a free-to-use DIY e-commerce platform allowing individuals and retailers to create their own virtual stores. The company launched in 2012 after being created in May 2011 by Carl Waldekranz, Kaj Drobin, Birk Nilson, and Siavash Ghorbani. Since launch it has seen over 28,000 online stores created in more than 110 countries. Tictail offers tools for merchants to build and run online storefronts without upfront cost. The company intends to use newly raised funds to continue expanding globally. The platform is positioned as a lightweight, accessible solution for small sellers and entrepreneurs. Tictail is a Stockholm-based "DIY" ecommerce platform launched in May that aims to make creating an online store extremely simple. The product includes a built-in marketing and sales assistant called the "to do feed," plus social media integration, order-shipping reminders, SEO advice, CRM support and a subscribe-to-store feature. The site accepts payments via PayPal and Klarna, and consumers do not need a PayPal account to check out. As of the article, Tictail hosts over 5,000 stores, mainly in the Nordics, Germany and the UK. With new funding the company plans to focus on the UK and pursue bigger growth targets across Europe. Tictail recently raised seed funding to support that expansion.
