Overview

Tintri builds VM-aware, application-aware storage that learns and adapts to virtualization and cloud environments. Its smart storage provides VM-level visibility, control, insight and flash performance, aiming to eliminate planning and complex troubleshooting for IT organizations. Led by chairman and CEO Ken Klein and co‑founder and CTO Kieran Harty, the company focuses on enabling IT teams to concentrate on virtualized applications and business services rather than managing storage infrastructure. Tintri's systems are used by more than 400,000 virtual machines and store about 50 petabytes of user data for enterprises and cloud service providers. Customers include Chevron, Comcast, ConocoPhillips, European Investment Bank, GE, NTT, MillerCoors, Rogers Communications, SK Telecom, Sony, Time Warner, United Healthcare and numerous U.S. federal agencies. The company said it will use new funding to accelerate global adoption of VM-aware storage. Tintri provides IT organizations with a platform (Tintri Zero Management Storage™) and products including Tintri VMstore™ and Tintri Global Center™ for virtual machine storage management. The offerings aim to eliminate storage complexity, improve performance and make virtualization predictable and scalable. Founded in 2008 and led by chairman and CEO Ken Klein, Tintri counts customers such as AMD, F5 Networks and Kawasaki Motors. The company raised $75m in a Series E Pre-IPO round, bringing total funding to $135m. It intends to use the funds to expand globally, further scale operations and support its customer base. Tintri is hiring. Tintri builds storage appliances designed specifically for virtualized environments and virtual machines. Its systems combine flash technology with deduplication and compression, and appliances can include up to a terabyte of flash to reduce I/O bottlenecks. The product is aimed at improving application performance while lowering cost and footprint compared with traditional storage vendors such as EMC and NetApp. Tintri positions itself as a next‑generation flash storage provider that addresses the performance issues that arise as VMs take on more load. The company launched in March of last year and has raised more than $60 million since then, including a new $25 million round. Investors in the latest round include Menlo Ventures, NEA, and Lightspeed Venture Partners. Tintri develops storage solutions purpose-built for virtual machines and launched its VM-aware appliance, VMstore, last quarter. The VMstore appliance is central to the company's product strategy. Tintri intends to use the new financing to accelerate its R&D schedule and to invest in regional sales initiatives for the product. The company raised $18 million in a Series C round from existing backers NEA and Lightspeed Venture Partners. This Series C follows roughly $17 million Tintri raised three months earlier in Series A and B financings. Tintri was co-founded in 2008 by Dr. Kieran Harty and is headquartered in Mountain View, California. Tintri develops storage systems purpose-built for virtual machines and has launched its VMstore product. VMstore is designed to allow enterprises to virtualize mission-critical applications, including Oracle Financials and Microsoft Exchange. The product was introduced in conjunction with the company's recent funding and is already in use across companies in global electronics, mobile games, geo-informatics, technology and higher education. Tintri raised $17M in Series A and B financing to support the launch. The company was founded in 2008 and is led by CEO Dr. Kieran Harty. Its research and development team includes experts from Citrix, EMC/Data Domain, Google, NetApp, Sun Microsystems and VMware.
