TIPA Sustainable Packaging is an Israeli startup that manufactures bio-based, fully compostable packaging for the food and fashion industries. Its films emulate standard plastic in strength, shelf life, durability, transparency, sealing strength, printability, flexibility and applicability while decomposing within 180 days in compost conditions. The company offers compostable packaging for snack food, confectionery, grains, dried foods, vitamins and coffee, and produces apparel packaging such as zipper bags and stand-up pouches. Clients named in coverage include Ekoplaza, Peese Snact, Van de Halm, Jumbo supermarket chain and Shanvalley; designer Stella McCartney also uses TIPA products. TIPA says its films degrade in landfills slower than in compost but still break down within a few years, unlike conventional plastics that last for hundreds of years. The company will use the proceeds to expand sales into new territories—its products are currently available in the US, France, England and the Netherlands—and to develop new generations of packaging; it works with a few brands in Israel in pilot mode and has won awards for its packaging.
