Overview

Tobira Therapeutics is a South San Francisco, CA-based clinical-stage biopharmaceutical company focused on the development and commercialization of novel treatments for liver and inflammatory diseases. The company is developing cenicriviroc (CVC), a dual CCR2/CCR5 inhibitor targeting immuno-inflammation and fibrogenesis in non-alcoholic steatohepatitis (NASH). Tobira completed a $13M convertible note financing to support its clinical program. Backers included Abingworth LLP, Biotechnology Value Fund and other affiliates of BVF Partners L.P., Stonepine Capital Management LLC, and current investors. The closing of the note financing and the investment by current investors was contemplated by a previously announced merger agreement with Regado Biosciences, expected to close in the second quarter of 2015. The company is led by Laurent Fischer, M.D., chairman and CEO. Tobira Therapeutics is a Manalapan, NJ-based biopharmaceutical company focused on developing and commercializing antiviral compounds to treat HIV. Its lead compound, TBR-652, is a dual-action CCR5/CCR2 antagonist being advanced for CCR5-tropic, treatment-naïve HIV patients. The company reported Phase IIa proof-of-concept results earlier in the year showing potent antiviral and anti-inflammatory activity in treatment-experienced HIV patients. Proceeds from its recently completed $31M Series B will be used to advance the clinical program and support a planned Phase IIb clinical trial following Phase IIa completion. Tobira was founded in 2006 by Eckard Weber and has assembled a management team with decades of clinical and commercial HIV/AIDS drug-development experience. The Series B strengthens the company’s financial position to progress its lead candidate through further clinical development.
