Tocomail
39 Brookline St., Chestnut Hill, 02467
Overview
Tocomail offers a child-focused email service and apps for iOS (with Android and web support coming) that let parents create and manage accounts and approve who their children can contact. The product includes parental controls such as configurable “safe contacts,” a profanity filter, a quarantine box for questionable messages, and tools to let parents review and approve outgoing mail. The app is designed to be appealing to kids with features like a drawing board, custom avatars, a picture timeline, and colorful UI; during beta the company found 6–9 year olds write very short emails and plans a messaging “bubbles” view to support that behavior. Tocomail charges for a premium parental-controls tier at $2.99/month or $29.99/year while the base service is free. Future releases are planned to add bullying-pattern detection and additional social features like status updates and timelines. The company was founded last year by Dennis Bolgov and Pavel Istomin and is based in Boston; it competes with services such as Maily and Toymail.
