Founders describe their strategy as being more like Netflix than YouTube: focusing on high-quality, exclusive titles rather than a creator-first marketplace. Toonsutra aims to grow comics culture and fandoms in India while competing with players such as Dashtoons, PocketFM and Pratilipi. TOONSUTRA is an India-focused mobile webtoon platform combining short-form webtoons with Web3 digital collectibles, incubated in stealth at Graphic India. The startup aims to be a storytelling home for disruptive creators across genres including superhero, fantasy, romance, sci‑fi, Bollywood and mythology, and to localize international comics into vernacular Indian languages. TOONSUTRA plans to showcase Graphic India’s comic library alongside rising Indian creators and to offer exclusive digital collectibles and Web3 experiences. The company targets India’s 650 million+ mobile youth market and is positioning the app for a wide launch in India in Q2. The venture was founded by media entrepreneur Sharad Devarajan, who brings experience in character entertainment and metaverse-related teaching at Columbia Business School. Financially, TOONSUTRA closed an oversubscribed pre‑seed round of US$1.1 million to fund product launch and content acquisition.
