Topmall.ua operates as an online fashion retailer that launched in 2013 with backing from Ukrainian fund TA Ventures. The company previously completed a media-for-equity deal with StarLightMedia in October 2014 that committed $3.2 million in concessional TV advertising for equity. Amid a difficult Ukrainian e-commerce market in 2015, Topmall shifted operations to Poland while continuing to serve Ukrainian customers. In February it raised $500,000 in a financing round; the terms and investor identities were not disclosed. Topmall used part of the new funding to relaunch the Polish e-commerce site Merlin.pl. The team views the Merlin.pl relaunch as an opportunity to establish a significant presence in the Polish e-commerce market.
