Overview
Torus Biosystems is developing a first-in-class syndromic testing solution, Synestia™, designed for point-of-care use in ambulatory care and hospital outpatient and emergency settings. The fully automated system integrates technologies including qPCR and microarray to deliver rapid, quantitative, highly multiplexed detection of microbial pathogens, resistance genes, and host immune-response markers. The device is optimized to produce sample-to-result turnaround in less than 30 minutes on a compact, portable platform. Torus aims to replace serial, single-pathogen tests with a single broad-menu assay to improve diagnostic sensitivity, specificity, and clinical decision-making during patient visits. The company was launched out of the Wyss Institute for Biologically Inspired Engineering and builds on technology developed by Wyss faculty and collaborators. Funding will be used to accelerate commercialization of Synestia™ across healthcare settings.
