TourPal is a travel app that provides free offline maps and paid audio guides (offered as in-app purchases) produced by professional tour guides. Its audio tours cover more than 250 tours across over 70 locations worldwide in eight languages, including major cities and smaller destinations. The app soft-launched on iOS last November, received a major update in July, and released an Android app last week. To date it has over 150,000 iOS downloads and about 1,000 Android downloads, has sold more than 1,000 paid tours, and recorded over 20,000 offline map downloads; monthly iOS MAU peaked at 55,000 in August. TourPal powers local recommendations with social crowdsourced data from Foursquare, Instagram and Facebook. The company plans to use the new funding for marketing around its social recommendations feature, to support the Android launch, and is running limited-time free promotions for some U.S. audio tours.
