Trace is an iPhone app that provides a standalone social feed for users to post and browse photos of items they've purchased. Users can tag product photos, favorite items, find friends, browse categories, and share posts to Facebook or Twitter; posts also have dedicated web pages. Founders Ryan Stevens (CEO) and Sudhir Navalapakam started the project after working at mobile payments service ZipPay and launched a private beta. The app has been in private beta for 14 weeks with around 1,500 users, predominantly young professional women. Trace has raised $250K in seed funding from Kae Capital and Tandem Entrepreneurs and is currently operating out of Tandem's auxiliary offices in Burlingame, California. The team says it is not auto-sharing purchases or dollar amounts, is not building a product database initially, and may explore affiliate commerce later as a potential revenue path.
