Overview

Transifex commercialized an open-source localization project into a cloud-based SaaS that centralizes target content in a single repository, ingesting updates via APIs, a Transifex Client, and CMS plugins. The platform provides a collaborative workspace for developers, in-house translators, third-party agencies, community translators and machine-translation services so localized content is part of the release cycle. It has been adopted by open-source projects such as Fedora, Django and Firefox and counts 400+ customers across more than 40 countries, translating into over 150 languages. Customers named in the article include Atlassian, Coursera, Eventbrite, SoundCloud, Strava, Waze and Vodafone. The company runs a development office in Athens and has its headquarters in Menlo Park (Silicon Valley), and it plans to double its engineering team in Athens this year. To date it has raised $6.5 million in total financing. Transifex provides a worldwide localization platform that enables developers and marketers to create, publish and manage translations of frequently updated website content. The company offers its tools free to the Open Source community and counts projects such as Bitcoin, Creative Commons, Firefox, OpenStack and Tor among its users. Customers include Atlassian, Coursera, Eventbrite, Strava, Vodafone and Waze, with presence in more than 30 countries, over 17,000 projects and 170,000 users localizing content in more than 150 languages. Founded in 2009 by CEO Dimitris Glezos, Transifex has developed technology for continuous localization and recently launched Transifex Live, a patent-protected product now in public beta. The company plans to use the new funding to expand platform capabilities and further develop Transifex Live. Transifex is currently hiring.
