Boomplay is a music streaming service that offers a freemium model where users can stream for free with advertisements and certain limitations, and a paid subscription that adds offline play and ad-free listening. As of February 2019 the company had acquired over 42 million users and hosts the largest online African music catalogue with 5 million tracks. The app is available on Android, iOS and web and the company operates four teams across Nigeria, Ghana, Kenya and Tanzania covering major West and East African markets. Now a wholly-owned subsidiary of the joint venture between Transsion Holdings and NetEase, Boomplay plans to use new funding to accelerate expansion. Planned uses include content acquisition, product optimization, recruitment, and further consolidation of its position as the leader in the African market. The company is led by CEO Joe He.
