Traptic develops a mobile robotic system that combines 3D cameras and AI vision with robotic arms to pluck fragile strawberries without damage. The company began commercial deployment in June, working in tandem with human pickers at Blazer-Wilkinson following a 2020 pilot. Leadership says recent funding was used to run a successful pilot, design and build a commercial-scale machine, and start the first paid deployment. Traptic positions its technology as a response to chronic farm labor shortages that cause roughly 10% of U.S. strawberries to rot in the field (up to $300 million annually). The startup employs around a dozen people focused on robotics and engineering and is advised by Pieter Abbeel and Serge Belongie. To date the company has raised $8.4M in early-stage financings.
