TravelBird is an Amsterdam-based travel e-commerce startup that offers daily travel package deals to subscribers. The service is described as a mix between Groupon and Booking.com. The company says 2.5 million customers have travelled with TravelBird. Over the last year it expanded from 8 to 17 countries and grew staff from 170 in January 2014 to well over 650. Rocket Internet (via Global Founders Capital) has invested in TravelBird, most recently contributing €16.5 million and bringing Rocket's total investment to €32.1 million for a 25.2% stake. TravelBird says it will use the new capital to create the "best mobile traveller's experience" and to launch three new country units, including its first outside Europe in Australia.
