Overview

TRAXyL is an optical fiber installation company based in Gainesville, VA that developed patented FiberTRAX technology for installing fiber optic lines directly onto paved surfaces, encased in protective coatings. FiberTRAX provides a minimally disruptive installation method proven to reduce lead times, installation and maintenance costs, and disruptions to surrounding areas. The technology is installed using TRAXyL's TRAXtor machine, which the company operates or leases to authorized distributors and installers. TRAXyL is led by CEO Daniel Turner and COO Stephen Carter. The company raised $5M in Seed funding led by Draper Associates with participation from In-Q-Tel and also announced a strategic investment and product development agreement with In-Q-Tel to accelerate flush-mount technology development. TRAXyL plans to use the funds to further develop its fiber-optic installation technology, manufacture additional installation equipment, and grow its team. TRAXyL installs high-speed Internet by embedding fiber optic cable on roads and parking lots. The company coats fiber optic cables in a heavy-duty paint that can be glued onto roads and other paved surfaces. TRAXyL is based in Warrenton, Virginia. It received the top prize of $150,000 in cash from MassChallenge Texas in Austin. The company participated in the DreamIt UrbanTech Accelerator. TRAXyL also received a $225,000 Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) grant from the National Science Foundation.
