TreeMetrics

6 South Mall, Cork, T12 EY97, Ireland

Overview

Treemetrics builds a 3D laser-scanning system that measures tree height, straightness, taper and volume to construct detailed 3D models and run virtual sawmill optimization. The company sells its solution as software-as-a-service, charging €0.30 per cubic meter for measurements and €0.40 for optimization software. Treemetrics says its system can reduce measurement costs by 75% and help cut fewer trees while maximizing value. The scanner gathers millions of data points over a 30 meter radius and the system is in use in Ireland, Norway, Australia, the UK and the US. Treemetrics was founded in 2005, is based in Cork, Ireland, has seven employees, and was started by Enda Keane and Garret Mullooly with research collaborations from several European universities. The company plans to add a feature to connect forests directly to sawmills to enable just-in-time log delivery and a leaner supply chain.
