Treeswift

3401 Grays Ferry Avenue, Building 176, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, 19146, United States

Overview

Treeswift builds hardware and software for drone-based forest monitoring, combining drone swarms with onboard cameras, sensors and machine learning to capture tree-by-tree metrics. Its primary product, SwiftCruise, pairs on-board processing with a cloud data dashboard to deliver higher-resolution forest data than satellite or plane imagery. The company says its data can be used for deforestation monitoring, carbon capture readings and forest fire prevention. Treeswift was formed as a spinoff of the University of Pennsylvania’s GRASP Laboratory in 2020 by founders Steven Chen, Elizabeth Hunter, Michael Shomin and Vaibhav Arcot; CEO Steven Chen described the mission as building a data ecosystem for the natural world. The startup is currently piloting its technology with multiple commercial forest companies. Financially, Treeswift announced a $4.8 million seed round this week, bringing total funding to $6.4 million.
