Trefis, launched last fall, decomposes a company's stock price by the contribution of its major products and business segments. The site lets users adjust variables in a company's business model to change stock predictions, which are plotted on interactive charts that can be embedded and shared. The company is launching Trefis Pro, a subscription that provides in-depth financial content for roughly 25 consumer-sector companies and daily insights across consumer and technology sectors. Trefis Pro includes advanced privacy features (allowing users to hide their estimates), costs $50 per month, and subscribers will get free access to additional consumer-sector companies as they are rolled out. The company plans to expand Pro planning content into other sectors such as financial services and healthcare. Financially, Trefis raised $1.6 million from Village Ventures and previously raised $550K in angel funding in 2008 led by Timothy Weller, Bob Johnson, and Semyon Dukach. Trefis is a web platform that builds traditional discounted cash-flow models and decomposes a public company's stock price into contributions from major products and businesses. Users can adjust assumptions by dragging controls on charts (for example forecasting iPhone price and market share) and watch the target stock price update in real time. At launch the site includes models for Apple, Google, Microsoft, Yahoo, HP, Netflix, Intel, the New York Times and others; users can save and share edited models. The product includes a social element where users can follow one another, and the founders hope to create a marketplace for experts to charge subscription fees for access to their models. Trefis was started by Manish Jhunjhunwala, Adam Donovan, and Cem Ozkaynak, who came from MIT and Cornell and previously worked at McKinsey and UBS. Financially, Trefis raised $550,000 in an angel round in November 2008 led by Timothy Weller, Bob Johnson of the MIT corporation, and Semyon Dukach.
