Trident Energy develops a generic direct-drive linear generator power-take-off (PTO) system with applications across wave and some tidal energy converters. The company is led by CEO Steve Packard and is UK-based. It completed a £440k second close of equity funding to advance its technology. Trident intends to use the capital to finance pier-based sea trials of its enabling technology for the offshore renewable energy industry. The firm will trial a prototype of its first commercial application — a wave energy converter designed to supply autonomous power to offshore structures as an alternative to diesel — at Kishorn in NW Scotland. Trident has contracted Babcock International Group to perform the engineering to integrate its generator technology with the Kishorn pier.
