Trillium Therapeutics

96 Skyway Avenue, Mississauga, Ontario, M9W 4Y9, Canada

Overview

Trillium Therapeutics is developing anti-CD47 immunotherapies, principally TTI-621, a recombinant fusion protein now in Phase I trials for hematologic and solid tumor cancers. Trials are testing TTI-621 as a monotherapy and in combination with Roche’s Rituxan (rituximab) and Bristol-Myers Squibb’s Opdivo (nivolumab). The company is based in Cambridge, Massachusetts. Pfizer purchased 2.3 million shares for $25 million at $10.88 per share and secured a board seat for executive Jeff Settleman. After the investment was announced, Trillium's shares jumped 46% at the Nasdaq open and remained more than 35% higher in midday trading. The funding and board seat reflect growing interest in CD47-directed therapies amid recent large deals in the space, including AbbVie's $2 billion partnership with I‑Mab and Gilead's $4.9 billion acquisition of Forty Seven. Trillium Therapeutics is a Toronto-based biopharmaceutical company developing innovative therapies for immune-mediated disorders. Its lead program, TTI-1612, is being advanced toward clinical trials for interstitial cystitis (bladder pain syndrome) and for prevention of necrotizing enterocolitis. The company raised $1M from a new undisclosed investor to fund the move of TTI-1612 into clinical studies, with the first trial expected to start later this year. Trillium plans to secure additional financing and/or a development partner before initiating randomized phase II studies in 2012. Beyond TTI-1612, the company maintains a broad portfolio of preclinical immunology programs, including two programs targeting cancer and autoimmune/inflammatory diseases. The company is led by Dr. Niclas Stiernholm (CEO) and Dr. Bob Uger (VP R&D).
