Tripshare is an iPad application for collaborative travel planning that lets users browse, collect and share destination photos, create itineraries and convert inspiration into bookings for flights, hotels and activities directly in the app. The app includes IM-like chat and sharing via email, Facebook and Twitter, and shared trips render in a web browser for non-iPad users. Tripshare's content covers more than 20,000 cities, 500,000+ lodging options, thousands of flights and over 200,000 tours, activities and restaurants, and the app has been available as an unpublicized beta in the iTunes App Store since August 2012. Despite minimal marketing, the beta has been downloaded nearly 20,000 times and today's release is presented as a version 2.0 relaunch. The company plans to integrate additional aggregators and services such as FlipKey vacation rentals, car rentals, restaurant reservations, cruises, safaris and travel insurance, and aims to launch an iPhone-optimized app and grow its social community by year end. Tripshare is free to users and is backed by $1.47 million in angel funding (including founder capital and investment from New York angels such as David S. Rose); it intends to earn revenue via a percentage of bookings.
