Triton Algae Innovations is a San Diego-based developer of an algal synthetic-biology platform that produces high-value proteins, enzymes, and other biologics. Its PhycoLogix™ platform is used to produce complex proteins and other products for agricultural, pharmaceutical, and retail markets. The company intends to commercialize PhycoShield™ and lists Mammary Associated Amyloid (MAA) as a first product; MAA is intended to stimulate a mucus coating in the digestive tract to prevent pathogenic bacterial colonization and is slated to be commercially available in 2014. Triton is also developing products for clinical oncology applications. Founded by CEO Jason Pyle, CSO Stephen Mayfield, and Sapphire Energy, the company plans to use new capital to execute R&D programs, expand the PhycoLogix™ platform, and commercialize its products.
