Overview
Trover operates a community-driven app and website focused on travel photography and cultural discovery, serving amateur and aspiring travel photographers. The service launched in 2011 and currently reports about 120,000 unique users across its iPhone app and website. Trover was founded out of the remains of Travelpost, which had leftover Series A capital that funded early Trover work. The company has now raised a total of $5.4 million, including a newly announced $2.5 million round. Trover plans to use the new capital to accelerate community growth and improve its apps and tools. It also recently released an updated iPhone app with streamlined navigation and more ways for users to find each other and share travel information. Trover is a mobile discovery network that lets people share location-specific discoveries using photographs and short descriptions. The iOS app shows a grid of nearby photos (Facebook sign-in) and automatically tags posts with location data. Users can follow others, view a profile page for each discovery, and leave comments or observations. During a limited spring trial open to Facebook members, Trover attracted more than 70,000 users across 150 countries. An Android app is currently in development. The product emphasizes high-quality, Instagram-like photo content combined with location signals to help users find places and things nearby.
